On August 24th, we partnered with Legionnaires and American Legion Auxiliary members, who volunteered their time to build raised bed gardens, a storage garden shed and a compost bin at the 7th Neighborhood Garden in St. Paul.
The 7th Neighborhood Garden is in its second year of existence. It started as the Cambric Senior Apartment Garden, but the garden founder quickly realized that the garden was a good way to get not just Cambric members to socialize, but to provide the entire East 7th neighborhood with a place to come together and experience the outdoors and growing their own food.
This project provided an opportunity to showcase the power of ‘veterans helping communities’ as thousands of members of The American Legion arrived in the Twin Cities for the 100th National Convention of The American Legion held at the Minneapolis Convention Center from August 24th until August 29th.
