On June 14th, we hosted more than 25 volunteers from Ehlers to help a single mom of five kids in Brooklyn Park with much-needed repairs and maintenance to her home. Volunteers spent the day painting exterior siding and trim, cleaning up the yard, power-washing and reinforcing a few boards on the deck, cleaning out the gutters, and making minor interior repairs. The generous team from Ehlers also donated a new picnic table, deck chairs, and grill to the family. We are grateful to the team from Ehlers for helping us complete this important project!
Opus Founders Day
We recently partnered with volunteers The Opus Group to provide much needed repairs for two low-income families for Founders Day. We helped a family in Blaine with seven kids. They bought their home seven years ago and in that time, the deck and stairs leading from their back patio door fell into serious disrepair. This created an unsafe egress/ingress situation, especially for their small children. We successfully removed their deck with the help of volunteers last year, and this year, we built them a safe, quality set of stairs so that the family has one less thing to worry about with raising their children.
We also helped an 84-year-old woman who lives in a mobile home and is unable to walk by herself. Her son lives with her and helps her get into and out of the house when he can. He also provides transportation to appointments and errands. We built her a ramp, providing her freedom from managing the old steps to her front door.
We are very grateful for the support and hard work of The Opus Group!
Wells Fargo Earth Day Extravaganza
We recently teamed up with Wells Fargo, Lake Street Council, Tree Trust, and City of Minneapolis for Wells Fargo’s Earth Day Extravaganza. On April 21st, Wells Fargo volunteers, friends, and family came together to get their hands dirty and give back. Volunteers worked in small groups to complete several activities, including:
• Placing mulch and water bags at young trees, weeding shrubs and cleaning up along the Greenway.
• Beautifying Lake Street which included weeding, removing tagging from walls and street side infrastructure, etc.
• Stenciling of storm drains and handout outdoor hangers for awareness in the community.
Thanks to everyone who joined us for the Earth Day Extravaganza!
The Home Depot Gives Back
We were thrilled to host volunteers from The Home Depot to build a ramp for a veteran in need named Diana this month! Diana is a veteran and former registered nurse. She lives in a mobile home park in Lakeville. Diana has lower back and knee issues due to age. She is unable to afford a ramp currently, and she finds it difficult to climb stairs. The Home Depot provided the funding and volunteers needed to build Diana a ramp, so she can come and go safely and independently from her home. We are grateful for the support of The Home Depot!
