Our Response to the Death of George Floyd

Dear Twin Cities Community,

We have been heartbroken regarding the tragedy that took George Floyd’s life while in police custody, sparking global outrage, pain and divisiveness. We understand that things are broken in our society and stand with those that face discrimination in any form.

Our streets, the streets where we have worked so hard over the last 23 years to make a better way of life for our citizens, have been shaken to their core, and the need to rebuild and come together is more vital now than ever.

Our work to provide safe homes, community spaces, nonprofit facilities, and small businesses that serve community members with the greatest needs is central to what is needed at this time.

To that end, we are working to formalize an organizational response plan so we can assist in the rebuilding process.

Rebuilding Together Twin Cities and our passionate team of volunteers will begin partnering with other local nonprofits and community groups in the days ahead to deliver a sustained, hands-on action plan that will help start the healing process block by block, neighborhood by neighborhood, for years to come.

Our work will focus on mobilizing the skills and resources we’ve developed in rehabilitating homes, businesses and community centers with expert craftsmanship and the hard work of our volunteers in the areas with the most need.

Please watch our web site and social media accounts to learn about how you can help in the days to come.

We will forever stay focused on the work we started long before this crisis and are fully committed to increasing our efforts in making the community better, together.

Order Your Planter Today!

We are thrilled to share a very special opportunity to get a unique gift while supporting Rebuilding Together Twin Cities!

We are constructing handmade wooden flower planters that can be purchased.  The proceeds from this fundraiser will support our efforts to help our neighbors in need have a safe and healthy place to call home.

The cedar planters are 2 feet by 4 feet and can be purchased for $400 plus sales tax ($12.60).  The planters can be picked up at our office (1050 SE 33rd Avenue Minneapolis, MN 55414).

You can purchase this special gift by contacting Silva at s.helmer@rebuildingtogether-twincities.org or Annette at a.rodriguez@rebuildingtogether-twincities.org.

COVID-19 Update

Although we have temporarily suspended projects and postponed volunteer groups who help us complete repairs, we are still accepting applications for Safe at Home and Home Repair projects. Please click on the Apply For Help section of the website for more information.

We have also rescheduled our Neighbor Helping Neighbor Breakfast fundraiser to later this year. Once these unprecedented challenges are behind us, the need for Rebuilding Together’s critical home repair services will be more important than ever.

During times like these, our work of providing critical home repairs to ensure the safety and health of our low-income neighbors including families with young children, seniors, people with disabilities, and other at-risk populations will demand new ways of delivering our services. This is why we are asking for your help. The spread of COVID-19 has made our work more challenging, but we will persevere. Please consider a donation today to support our mission and keep our community safe.

The Rebuilding Together staff is currently working from home. We will keep you updated as this situation develops. If you have questions, please email info@rebuildingtogether-twincities.org or leave a message at (651) 776-4273.

Be safe and be well.

Thanks to the Opus Ramp Team!

Last fall, we partnered with Opus to launch a second Ramp Team! This Team built their first ramp on October 24th and 25th for a woman in Richfield who recently suffered a stroke. The Opus Ramp Team is currently composed of nine retired Opus corporation employees, who served in a variety of positions, including superintendents, field staff, architects and sales and administrative supervisors. Together, this Team has over 250 years of construction-related experience!

Craig Larson, the Opus Ramp Team Lead, is very excited about getting the Opus Team up and running. He looks forward to having even more Opus retirees join the Team and some good-natured competition between the new Opus Ramp Team and our Honeywell Ramp Team in the coming years.
