We would like to send a special thank you to the volunteer team from Ehlers Public Finance Advisors who gave their time to help a homeowner in need this month! We partnered with Ehlers to serve a client named Rita, an older adult who resides in the Nokomis East Neighborhood. She had recently gotten major shoulder surgery and needed assistance maintaining her home. Ehlers showed up in force with more than 30 volunteers and did an excellent job. Together, we painted Rita’s basement, cleaned out her entire garden and mulched it, cleaned out her gutters, changed the grade of soil around her home to help keep moisture out of her basement, and repaired cracks in her foundation. We even did a little work on her neighbor’s yard – we cleaned out their gutters and raked their yard. Thanks to the Ehlers team for giving their time and hard work to help Rita and her neighbor!
Opus Ramp Team Builds Two More Ramps
This month, the Opus Ramp Team built a ramp for Jacqueline in Roseville. WCCO came out to film the ramp and put together a great piece about our work to help older adults and individuals living with a disability live more independently and how that work will be supported by the Hook, Line, & Shelter Fishing Tournament. You can check out that piece HERE.
In addition, the Opus Ramp Team and Lead Volunteer Chris Reiss built a ramp for Salley in May. They also fixed some paneling on the exterior of the home. The homeowner’s daughter wrote us this lovely thank you note, “I just wanted to thank you for fixing the paneling on our house. Also, my mom and I really appreciate the ramp. I’m able to get her outside in front, which is really nice (weather permitting). Also, we get a lot of compliments about the ramp.”
Thank you to the Ramp Team volunteers and Chris for two more life-changing projects!
Centennial United Methodist Church Gives Back
Thanks to volunteers from Centennial United Methodist Church! They packed Safe at Home kits, sorted ramp lumber, and painted bird houses. The Safe at Home kits will be distributed to low-income older adults to help live more safely in their homes!
