Thanks again to the incredible team from the Catholic Heart Workcamp who spent a week with us making repairs for homeowners in need in North Minneapolis. This team helped us complete several projects started on National Rebuilding Day and reorganized our warehouse. This is the third year in a row that we’ve had this incredible group volunteer with us. Rebuilding Together Twin Cities has been incredibly fortunate to have Erin Anderson, Kristen Beck and Erika Wurst serve as AmeriCorps members over the last year. With their terms of service coming to an end, Rebuilding Together Twin Cities would like to thank each of them for all of their hard work and dedication.
Erin, who served as the AmeriCorps Volunteer Coordinator, has accepted a position as the Director of Community Outreach for GoLocal in Boston. The company works to champion local businesses by creating incentives for consumers to buy locally.
Kristen, who was the AmeriCorps Project Coordinator, will start a Master’s degree program in Academic Advising at Kansas State University this fall.
Erika, who served as the Safe at Home Coordinator, will enter law school this fall at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
Erin, Kristen, and Erika have truly been a pleasure to work with over the last year. Their dedication and enthusiasm have proven invaluable and the programs have continued to grown due to their efforts. Thank you again for your service. Best of luck as you start this next chapter in your lives!
Last month, Rebuilding Together Twin Cities recognized the Mosaic Company with the Twin Cities Community Builder Award. This award is given to an individual, corporation or organization which best exemplifies dedicated service and unparalleled leadership to communities in need. The Mosaic Company was selected to receive this award because they work to incorporate volunteerism and giving back into the culture of their organization. Employees regularly volunteer with Rebuilding Together, serving on the Board of Directors, helping with volunteer coordination and making repairs for low-income homeowners, and they consistently look for ways to do more for those in need, often going above and beyond what is required to complete a home repair project. In addition to sponsoring large home repair projects in 2008, 2009 and 2010, the Mosaic Company recently committed to contribute $90,000 to RTTC over three years. Employees pledged an additional $10,000, making the total contribution from Mosaic $100,000. Thank you to the Mosaic Company for all they have done to help us help more homeowners in need! We are thrilled to continue this partnership!
Rebuilding Together Twin Cities is thrilled to announce a formal partnership with Dunwoody College of Technology. This partnership will enable us to help even more homeowners in need and provide students with an opportunity to apply their skills outside of the classroom in real life situations.
Students from Dunwoody’s Construction Project Supervision Program have already begun to serve in key leadership roles on both Home Repair and Safe at Home projects. Five Dunwoody students served as House Captains for National Rebuilding Day on April 30th. In this role, students were involved in all aspects of the home repair project, including previewing the home, planning the scope of work and supervising volunteers on the project day. In addition, 18 students, faculty and staff participated in National Rebuilding Day as volunteers. Students from Dunwoody are also involved in Rebuilding Together’s Safe at Home projects, previewing homes to determine what work will be done at the home.
“This partnership is a win-win for both Rebuilding Together and Dunwoody College of Technology,” said Kathy Greiner, Executive Director of Rebuilding Together Twin Cities. “We need skilled volunteers to provide the expertise necessary to complete some of the home repair projects and to supervise volunteers working on the project. By working together, we will be able to serve more homeowners in need and provide students with a unique opportunity to use their skills to really make a difference for someone in their community.”
Heather Gay, a Senior Instructor for the Construction Supervision Program, who was instrumental in forming this partnership, said “Dunwoody College of Technology’s partnership with Rebuilding Together Twin Cities is an amazing way for our Construction Project Supervision students to combine field experience with service learning. Our students are able to connect with the communities they live in; essentially, the community is the classroom.”
